Service Description

American Canoe Association Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Course. This 3-day course, based on ACA’s Level IV SWR curriculum, is appropriate for trip leaders, whitewater instructors and guides, and recreational paddlers, looking to further their skills. We are tailoring this course to river guides, private rafters, and whitewater paddlers. Course Curriculum: https://cdn.ymaws.com/www.americancanoe.org/resource/resmgr/sei-courses/l4_swr_skills.pdf The course location will be held in and around Big Eddy on the West Branch of the Penobscot in Millinocket, Maine. The SWR course covers: swimming and self-rescue, throw bag use, wading, scene management, boat and shore-based rescue techniques, and the use of mechanical advantage, among others. This is a demanding course, participants are expected to be fit, comfortable in the water, and have a foundation knowledge of hydrology and moving water. Students must provide their own thermal protection, personal flotation device, helmet, and footwear. The course includes two nights camping at Big Eddy. Food not included.

Cancellation Policy

30 Days or more prior to course start date, SRG will offer a full refund. Between 15 and 29 days prior to the course start date, SRG will retain 25 percent of the course tuition. Between 8 and 14 days prior to the course start date, SRG will retain 50 percent of the course tuition. Less than 8 days prior to the course start date or after the course has begun, there will be no refunds.
